When an ordinary day of an ordinary person became an ordinary extraordinary because their life gets significance and success.
Let’s continue with the 3rd teaching of the series [gamechanger] where God is challenging our values.
If you feel like ordinary today, you need to know that you are positioned to be mightly used by an extraordinary God.
Which means that the glory or power doesn’t come from us but through us and that’s the result of having a relationship with God.
Don’t settle for ordinary
One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.Acts 3:1-7 NIV
Whenever you find these two “one day” in the scripture then you can expect that something extraordinary will happen.
You may think that those stories are about God but it’s more about how ordinary people discovered that with God all things are possible.
Here’s a quote from Steven Furtick to live the extraordinary of God:
We’re going to sow seeds of sacrificial generosity that will produce fruit in the future.
The blessings that you see today were made by incredible sacrifices that nobody sees today.
This idea also explains the profound difference between success and significance.
Success and significance difference
The difference between success and significance is that success is what you build for yourself meanwhile significance is what you give away for God.
Due to this difference, you can find successful people with no significance and also the other way around.
Maybe the difference isn’t clear yet so let me summarize it. The difference stands in just one word which is sacrifice.
In order to succeed in something we need to make some sacrifices but the difference is found in the category of sacrifices.
For significance, the sacrifice transcends our will and our desire because is no longer about us but about God. Is not about our success but about the success of God’s purpose.
In the case of [Elevation Church], on which I’m basing these teachings, their mission has significance as you can notice with their statement: so that people far from God will be raised to life in Christ.
It’s a sacrificial goal that transcends ourselves.
If you like their mission then check them out and you will be very welcome in the family.
An ordinary extraordinary
We have read Acts 3 but we cannot get the whole context unless we read the previous verses so let’s do that.
Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had a need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.Acts 2:43-47 NIV
As you can notice these other two words every day which implies that what Peter and John lived was something ordinary, something that happened every day.
The miracle in chapter 3 was an ordinary miracle.
Seems weird to call it this way but when God is in the scene the extraordinary happens every day and that’s the idea with an ordinary day.
It’s time for us to start living our extraordinary day ordinarily.
By ordinary people
When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.Acts 4:13 NIV
Notice again, they were ordinary people that were used by an extraordinary God. That alone is what will mark the difference in our lives, not because we are the best but because our God is.
People around you will also notice that you are with Jesus as it happened with Peter and John.
That was the whole message, hope you liked it.
I will be posting more on this series and I’m also making a short book about it so sign up into the [newsletter] to receive the notifications.
You can also see the illustrations and short videos through social media as [@lenusme].
By the way, I published a book for business development that is called [Salud Empresarial] and it has over 100 chapters of different topics so I highly recommend it.
