In our own lives, we are all having a relay race that we must run very carefully with a baton of faith. Please, don’t drop it.

This is the seventh teaching of the series [gamechanger] and for this teaching, we got a new teacher. I am talking about Christine Caine who was on Elevation Church as a guest speaker.

One habit I have developed is to be grateful every day by thinking about three things I’m grateful for. The reason behind it is that it provides a joyful heart since you learn to appreciate even the little things.

The reason why it is very important is that I’m able to remember the great things that God do for me and how He answers my prayers.

I usually tend to forget what I say to God and that’s why I don’t notice when He answers. So in this way, I can have a better memory of our conversations.

Another great way to do this is by having a diary of prayer but sometimes this isn’t sustainable for the long run. So I only do it time by time.

Our own testimony can be very powerful and you can see it through the life of Solomon.

Testimony of Gods power

When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the Lord, she came to test Solomon with hard questions. Arriving at Jerusalem with a very great caravan—with camels carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones—she came to Solomon and talked with him about all that she had on her mind. Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too hard for the king to explain to her. When the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon and the palace he had built, the food on his table, the seating of his officials, the attending servants in their robes, his cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he made at the temple of the Lord, she was overwhelmed.

1 Kings‬ ‭10:1-5‬ ‭NIV

The queen of Sheba tested the rumors about Solomon and found out that it was true. Actually, she got surprised because she was incredulous.

This is somehow very similar to what happens in our own lives as Jesus’s followers because the world is incredulous and they would be surprised by our lives as the queen did with Solomon.

Yet, don’t expect to be perfect for this job because Solomon wasn’t. You can read his curriculum and find a lot of flaws but yet he had something special and for us, that is the Holy Spirit.

In other words, we have grace and we are constantly being changed by the power of Christ. That change is what will amaze the world.

We don’t have to do anything, because it’s not about us. It’s about what God can do through us.

Olympic race

Our life is like a race but not any race, it’s a relay race because after us there will be new generations.

Believe it or not, there’s a reference in the scripture that talks about the race of life.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer, and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before Him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭NIV

We have an enemy that constantly is trying to distract us from the one thing we’re on the earth to do.

If you didn’t know, that one purpose in life is to expand the gospel of Jesus throughout the world.

Most people think that we need to be pastors for that but it’s not true. You can share the gospel being a student or being a professional because wherever you are there will be people you can impact.

That’s our race and now you can understand why our enemy is trying to distract us from our path.

In a relay race, you are responsible for carrying a baton that you will eventually pass on. The reason why our life is more like this relay race is that it doesn’t matter how strong or fast you are. If you lose the baton, you will also lose.

The way we lose the baton in real life is when we get distracted by our enemy. And there’s a great example of this in the scripture.

The people served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had seen all the great things the Lord had done for Israel. Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of a hundred and ten. And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath Heres in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash. After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.

Judges‬ ‭2:7-10‬ ‭NIV

That’s a great example of a generation that didn’t pass on their baton which meant that they failed in their life purpose.

We need to pass on the baton of faith for the next generations.

The race is in front of us so don’t use excuses to apply your faith as “whenever I get more money” or “when God asks me to”.

Sometimes we need to act with radical passionate faith as the heroes of faith did. Here I am gonna leave you some examples:

  • Noah made an ark that has never done before for an impossible rain.
  • Moses led Israel through the sea and through the desert with a stick.
  • Sarah had a baby when it was biologically impossible because of her advanced age.
  • The Israelites destroyed the walls of Jericho by worshiping and walking around.
  • David killed a nine-foot giant having only five little stones.

The stories can continue but there’s one common factor which is that people laughed at these heroes of faith, yet they experienced the greatest miracles known to mankind.

A faithful prayer

Father, give me faith to trust what you say that you are good and your love is great. Let your words and acts stay in my heart and give me the audacity to share what you have done. The audacity to tell the story of my ancestors in faith. In Jesus name, Amen.

This was the whole message and I believe in the impact that it can have on our lives.
