This is the first sermon United we Stand from the series Church is a group project where we learned the most basic principle we should have as a Church.
United we Stand
8 “Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them. 9 Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you. – Exodus 25.8-9 NIV
22 There, above the cover between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the covenant law, I will meet with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites. – Exodus 25.22 NIV
The reason why there’s not a perfect church is that the church is people and there’re no perfect people. So to be a perfect church it means that there’re no people in that church.
The devil is not afraid of a big church, he is afraid of a united church.
Tabernacle means “place of meeting” or “tent of meeting”.
So many churches often time are suffering not because there are no people in the house rather because people are not functioning as a part of the body.
We are serving because Christ first served us.
Things we see in the House of God
1– God is Holy
The first thing we notice by seeing the things in the tabernacle is that God is holy.
Holy means “set apart” and when we say that God is holy is because God is not like anything in the creation.
The 12 tribes of Israel build their tents around the tabernacle so the tabernacle would be in the center. You should notice that the tabernacle represents our spirit, the tribe of Levi (priests) represents our soul and the people of Israel represents our body.
23 The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ’s body, in which he speaks and acts, by which he fills everything with his presence. – Ephesians 1.23 MSG | United we Stand
The Brazen Altar is the first thing you see when you enter the tabernacle and this is where sacrifices are made. This also tells us that you cannot get to God without sacrifice.
Jesus doesn’t just cover your sins temporarily, He takes away your sins eternally.
From the Holy Place we learned that God’s presence was separated by a veil and also that if the priests didn’t follow the requirements to enter the holy place, he’ll die as he enters.
50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. 51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split. – Matthew 27.50-51 NIV
2– God is merciful
God camp with his people. God wants to be with us, He’s near and not distant. There’s no other god like that who’s present and engaged.
18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. – Psalm 34.18 NIV | United we Stand
In the Ark of the Covenant are two angels in the top and between those two angels is what is known as the mercy seat. God meets with his people from the beginning at the mercy seat.
At the third day after the crucifixion, there were two angels above Jesus tomb but Jesus was no longer there. This means that Jesus unlocked the mercy seat.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. – John 1.14 NIV
In the old testament, the word “dwelling” is the same as “tabernacle”.
Distraction leads to division.
